Bio: Sam Lobel
Bio
Sam is a tenor sax and clarinets player who was in the Boston Scene when I arrived in Boston in 1989 to attend Berklee. Following the dissolution of the Masashi Harada Sextet, Glynis, Sam and I started Leaping Water Trio. After a few years this turned into Leap of Faith with Glynis and me and Wind with Sam and me. For years, Sam and I had very frequent duets at my apartment in South Boston. These were mostly recorded on cassette tape, but there were some concerts recorded on DAT that eventually were released. Sam also played on my first major compositional work, Expansions, which was performed in 1994, and he was in the horn section with me in Raqib Hassan’s big band performances.
